A steel weeping willow design. Describing the inspiration for the work, George King said: 'A willow has a strong trunk, which symbolises how people worked together to create the strength needed at such a difficult time.' Quotes on the inside of the steel columns are 'memories and experiences of the pandemic' which had been collected on postcards. King added: 'Local poets took fragments of them and tied them together into a single poem, so as you walk around the sculpture you experience a unique piece of literature'.

Willow Tree Memorial – Built march 2023 / This stainless steel sculpture representing a willow tree / has been installed as a permanent memorial. / A space to celebrate the small acts of kindness, support / positive change and remember those we have lost. / The tree memorialises the Covod pandemic, which was / a historic global event. No community was untouched / by the pandemic. / The experiences of Sheffield residents were captured, / stored in the City’s archives and incorporated into the / design of the memorial. / As we learn about each other’s lives we can lay the / foundations for a compassionate Sheffield. / Everyone has a story.
