About this video

A group of students visit The Usher Gallery in Lincoln to find out about a large, carved-marble sculpture of a man with his dog by the famous Victorian artist John Gibson. Why and how was it made and what is going on here?

This is one of a series of four-minute films produced by schools and young people's groups from across the UK about sculpture local to them.

The following artwork is another version of The Hunter and the Dog by Gibson named Meleager (the Hunter) after the hero in Greek mythology who hosted the Calydonian boar hunt. This version is part of the collections at Norwich Castle Museum and Gallery.
