More about

Located in the heart of Chichester on the south coast, Pallant House Gallery is a unique combination of a Grade I Listed, Queen Anne townhouse and an award-winning contemporary extension. Winner of the 2007 Gulbenkian Prize for Museums and Galleries, Pallant House Gallery has one of the most significant collections of Modern British Art in the country. The Gallery was opened in 1982 and forms a 'collection of collections' including that of Walter Hussey, the former Dean of Chichester Cathedral who commissioned much modern religious art by Graham Sutherland, John Piper and others; Charles Kearley's collection of international modernist artworks by artists such as Gino Severini, Fernand Léger and Ben Nicholson; and Prof Sir Colin St John Wilson (the architect of the British Library) whose collection included iconic works of British Pop Art by Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Richard Hamilton and Joe Tilson, and figurative art by the likes of Michael Andrews, Frank Auerbach, David Bomberg, William Coldstream, Lucian Freud and Walter Richard Sickert. There is an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions and events and an award-winning community programme.
