Sculptor, born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Attended Crawford School of Art, Cork, 1970–4; Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, 1974–5; then Crawford School, 1975–7. She won many awards and prizes, latterly including the Art and Work Award, Wapping Art Trust, for Nyama, at Bishopsgate, 1996, and Royal Society of Arts Award, 1998. Residencies included Delfina Studios, Manilva, Spain and Centre du Sculpture, Montolieu, France, both 1996. In 1991 obtained commissions for Cardiff Bay Art Trust at Gateway, Cardiff, and Phoenix Park, Dublin. Among her later commissions, one of many, was Pero’s Bridge, Bristol, 1999, designed with Ove Arup & Partners, which commemorated a black slave brought to the city by his owner to work as a servant; and Shear, a stainless steel work for Bevois Valley, Southampton City Council, 2001.
