Artist, daughter of the painter Vanessa Bell, born at Charleston Farmhouse, Firle, Sussex. In 1936 she attended the London Theatre Studio drama school, in 1938 the Euston Road School to study art, which she then taught at Langford Grove School, 1940. In 1941 she worked on the Berwick Church murals with her mother, Duncan Grant and Quentin Bell, the next year marrying the writer David Garnett, by whom she had four daughters. Continued to paint, organise art courses and run exhibitions while living in Huntingdonshire. Garnett worked with George Bergen in New York, 1967–8, lived in Sussex from 1977, in 1984 settling in France at Forcalquier. Solo shows included Grafton, Upper Street and Marjorie Parr Galleries and Southover Gallery, Lewes. Later exhibitions included The Crescent Gallery, Cedar Springs, Dallas, Texas, 1986, and Deborah Gage (Works of Art), where her 1993 exhibition Transformations comprised objects made from plastic bags, bottles, cans, corks and feathers.
