This is a portrait of Frances, daughter of Sir John Altham. She married Richard Vaughan, 2nd Earl of Carbery of Golden Grove, Carmarthenshire. She died in childbirth in 1650. The painting was previously attributed to Sir Peter Lely and it may have been painted after the sitter's death. The landscape in the background may be a very early landscape view of Llandelio, Carmarthenshire. This painting was once part of the collection of Gelli Aur (Golden Grove) House, Carmarthenshire.

This artwork is shown both post-conservation and pre-conservation.
