Co-curated with the volunteer-run Hip Hop Historian Society, this exhibition will showcase the history of the groundbreaking movement in Leeds. Stories and objects will be brought together from inspirational local artists, renowned record shops, and communities from Leeds and Yorkshire to promote and cultivate the positive Hip Hop ethos and values of justice, peace, respect, self-worth, community, and having fun. A Hip Hop Journey will take visitors through a series of recreated rooms which represent some of the ways people experience Hip Hop – whether at home, in a record store, or at a gig venue. You will have the opportunity to experience the wealth of unique talent that the Leeds Hip Hop scene has produced including Nightmares on Wax, Breaking the Illusion, LSK, Braintax, Skinnyman, Tommy Evans, Jehst, Part2ism, and New Flesh. The exhibition will also pay homage to pioneering MCs like MC Daddy Speedo, and independent record labels such as Low Life, YNR, Firstwords, and Invizible Circle.
