Painter, teacher and writer who in the 1950s produced pictures of the type popularly known as Kitchen Sink School. He was born in Accrington, Lancashire, attending the local Art School, then was briefly at Royal College of Art in 1941, returning to it, after Army service, in 1944–6. Settled in London and showed with LG; Roland, Browse & Delbanco; and AEB, from which his oil on canvas Tenement Dwellers was acquired in 1956 by Arts Council. In 1984 he was included in the Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield, touring show The Forgotten Fifties. Taught for many years at Kingston-upon-Thames School of Art, in charge of printmaking. Teaching curtailed Duxbury’s painting time, so that he turned to etching, after retirement frequently sketching concert musicians for his prints.
