Computing and other new technologies have yet to make a significant impact as subjects in the traditional media of oil painting and sculpture. Digital technologies certainly lie behind the scenes in some abstract paintings and those based on digital images but are seldom themselves the subject of such paintings (works by Gordon Faulds are an exception). Even the interiors of offices have rarely been recorded, let alone contemporary offices based around computers and digital technology – Robert Priseman’s The Search Room at Essex Record Office and Simon Black’s The Desk seem to be very rare examples in public collections.
