A scene by the sea, with a large shell containing two naked female figures fills the canvas, seagulls fly to and fro from the top right corner. There are allusions to Sandro Botticelli's 'The Birth of Venus'. One of the females lies on her back with her hair flowing across the sand, both hands stretched out towards the birds, the other female is younger; a girl with tied-back hair raising herself up to look at the birds.
