Infusion of local art puts hotel at the heart of the city’s downtown renaissance.
The Renaissance Phoenix Hotel began a major street activation project in 2016, when Marriot invested $10 million to enhance the hotel’s ambiance and street-level connection with the increasing pedestrian foot traffic on Adams Street
Spectacular art is featured on the ground floor, immediately welcoming visitors at the entrances, and continuing throughout the hotel. Light fixtures, sculptures, wall displays and furnishings provide an immersive arts experience that keeps hotel guests coming back. It’s also made the Renaissance a magnet for locals who find the space an enticing place to gather for business meetings, dinners with friends, and after-work happy hours.
Through a partnership with Downtown Phoenix Inc., the Renaissance is also home to a 70’ x 50’ mural that was recently completed by local artists Darrin Armijo-Wardle and Hugo Medina. The mural tells the story of Malinda Curtis, a colorful character who lived in the neighborhood in the early 20th century.
The hotel’s connection to local arts also benefits its employees, who get to experience the joys of the city’s culture scene while on the job.
